An ophthalmologist specializes in medical and surgical prevention and treatment of eye diseases. Ophthalmologists are trained to be able to deliver total eye care: prescribing and dispensing glasses and contact lenses, diagnosing and treating eye diseases, medically or surgically, as well as diagnosing and treating ocular manifestations of systemic diseases.
